Hourly Pay Range (Minimum - Midpoint - Maximum):

$65.250 - $75.720 - $86.180

The stated pay scale reflects the range as defined by the collective bargaining agreement between Sharp HealthCare and Sharp Professional Nurses Network, United Nurses Associations of California/Union of Health Care Professionals, NUHHCE, AFSME, AFL-CIO. Placement within the range is based on years of RN experience.

What You Will Do

To provide direct and indirect nursing services to patients and families.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate of nursing school Or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing

  • 2 Years recent pertinent clinical experience

  • 2 Years recent (within last two years) Level II or NICU experience.

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) - CA Board of Registered Nursing -REQUIRED

  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Professional (AHA BLS Healthcare) - American Heart Association -REQUIRED

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) - Various-Employee provides certificate -REQUIRED

Preferred Qualifications

  • Other - Recent ALS training.

Other Qualification Requirements

  • ALS training is required within 12 months of hire per department guidelines. In lieu of ALS training, 1 year of recent experience as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is required.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with research team to promote and advance neonatal researchCollaborates with research nurse to facilitate neonatal research activities and assists with data collection and clinical management.Consults with multidisciplinary team to identify research opportunities.Implements and educates change of practice related to data outcome.

  • Encourages professional development to promote practical knowledge for all caregivers resulting in improved patient outcomes.Facilitates orientation of nursing, NNP, interns and paramedic students.Responsible for orientation of new hires/NICU preceptees to delivery attendance.Facilitates others to follow policies and procedures, department protocols and guidelines of care. Seeks input from legal department on issues related to nursing practice.Assists staff with building clinical organizational skills.Guides staff in assessing patients with conditions that are new or unfamiliar.Precepts all ALS RNs in clinical training and provides ongoing didactic material during orientation.Provides instruction and support for infant care areas regarding normal/abnormal findings of infant assessment.Provides education, information and support of PSCU patients and families regarding potential admission to NICU or their premature infant.

  • Functions as a recognized advisor and is sought out for critical thinking, proficient problem solving and decision making skills.Collaborates with management to develop systems and programs to enhance patient/unit outcomes.In response to subtle information or data indicative of current or potential risk to patient, initiates action to reduce, correct or prevent risk.Assists staff in setting patient centered goals to meet realistic and measurable outcomes.Anticipates potential problems and adapts to changes in the department by setting priorities for emergencies, changes in patient status and unusual occurrences.Acts as a resource to other staff members in problem identification and solution to promote positive patient outcomes.Works with the charge nurse to plan and assess unit needs related to anticipate change in census or patient acuity.

  • Provides knowledge and skilled expertise in immediate resuscitation of the neonate in clinical areas. Coordinates neonatal resuscitation team for high-risk deliveries.Performs endotracheal intubation, umbilical line placement, radial artery puncture, closed chest needle aspiration, initiates and coordinates neonatal resuscitation according to Advanced Life Support RN Standardized Procedures and NRP Guidelines.Identifies endotracheal and umbilical line placement, pneumothorax and common neonatal disorders per check X-ray.Transports patients going to/from CHHC for procedures/surgery.Maintains unit specific and required Advanced Life Support RN competencies, incorporating age specific criteria.Identifies Quality improvement issues related to practice. Utilizes opportunities such as QI review, nursing research, informal studies and experiences to improve practice.Identifies and participates in change policies and procedures, department protocols and patient care guidelines and QI review.Participates in 75% of monthly meetings, submits agenda items and/or initiates discussions regarding pertinent issues.

  • Professional CompetencyALS training is required within 12 months of hire per department guidelines (the department is responsible for tracking the completion of this training). In lieu of ALS training, 1 year of recent experience as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner is required.
