This position is responsible for reviewing, preparing and analyzing risk for renewals, proposals, financial agreements, settlements, and benefit changes. The position is responsible for negotiation with sales or account management for final price and product configuration, supporting documentation and explanation of the same. The position acts as a consultant within the division. A Day in the Life: Analyzes and evaluates existing and new business complex risk for all funding types. Completes financial analysis for settlements and agreements for self insured groups. Provides communication to internal and external customers expressing complex concepts in understandable terms. Develops and maintains documentation on underwriting processes and systems. Assists Underwriting Consultants and Management as requested. Leads or participates in special projects assigned by management. Keeps abreast of current underwriting practices, rating tools, industry practices and healthcare reform legislation. Provides training, work direction, and technical support to other underwriters, advocating transparency in underwriting practices. Nice to Have: Bachelor's degree. Required Skills and Experiences: 5+ years of related professional experience. All relevant experience including work, education, transferable skills, and military experience will be considered. Comprehensive knowledge of health insurance industry, competitive environment, underwriting guidelines, principles of risk selection, funding types and contractual agreements. Strong proficiency in Excel, Word, Adobe and Access. Advanced analytic and interpretive skills with well developed problem solving ability. Proven ability to work independently and in a team environment. Strong relationship building skills. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with presentation experience.
