Municipal Courts department has an exciting opportunity to become a Municipal Courts Security Officer. The duties will include but not limited to the following:
Provides general security services to maintain the orderly and efficient operations of a municipal court.
Conducts a physical inspection of the courtroom for security prior to and at the end of each court session.
Secures the courtroom when court is not in session, monitors and conducts daily inspections of all security equipment such as court benches, lighting, fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
Observe and report any prohibited items that enter our facilities and courtrooms.
Assists contract-security in front entrance when instructed.
Perform opening and closing ceremonies of the Court, enforce courtroom rules of behavior and issue warnings as needed.
Enforce and report contempt’s order via city issued device.
Prepares Daily Activity Reports, via Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint).
Complete yearly CJIS Training and TLETS
Complete yearly Xray Training
Provide courtroom rules and procedures to the citizens before each docket.
Assist with Parking Division
Able to manage large groups of people.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position occasionally requires stooping or bending and the ability to make simple gross motor responses within large tolerances. Requires long periods of standing. Occasional light lifting, minor discomforts from exposure to less-than-optimal temperature and air conditions. May deal with modestly unpleasant situations, as with occasional exposure to office chemicals.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Requires a high school diploma or a GED. Must have CPR training, or the ability to get CPR training within 6 weeks of hiring.
Skilled in effectively and tactfully communicating with a wide variety of people in sensitive situations as may be normally acquired through public relations training. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with judges, lawyers, City employees, and the general public. May require bilingual (Spanish/English) ability to talk to citizens who are not fluent in English. Knowledge of courtroom procedures sufficient to maintain efficient operations is also required.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
One year of related work experience is required, preferably in a law enforcement agency.
One year of military or police training may be substituted for the above experience requirement.

PREFERENCES
Preferences shall be given to the candidates that have the following:
Strong interpersonal skills
Experience interacting with Judges, lawyers, and the general public professionally and courteously.
Three years of related work experience preferably in a law enforcement agency.
Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.
