WorkSource Oregon Natural Resource Specialist 2 - Community Wildfire Forester in JOHN DAY, Oregon

This is a Limited Duration position stationed in Fossil/John Day, expected to end June 1, 2026, with the possibility of extension and/or reclassification. Qualifications: * Two years\' experience in Forestry and/or a closely related natural resource program, AND a bachelor\'s degree in forestry or in a closely related natural resource program, OR an equivalent level of experience and education. * Pass the physical fitness Work Capacity Test at the arduous level. * Valid driver\'s license and acceptable driving record. Duties: * Provide on-the-ground and administrative process support to hazardous fuels treatment initiatives conducted under the Federal Grant funded programs. * Provide liaison and support as needed with NRCS, FSA, USFS, Rural Fire Districts, OSU Extension Service and counties with landscape level grants/program partnership initiatives. * Give technical fuel and forest management advice to non-industrial private landowners. * Establish and maintain opportunities to effectively utilize material generated from projects through means other than burning. * Develop and maintain simple long and short-range project tracking systems and document practices using GIS and GPS tools, including writing and submission of grant proposals for continued funding sources. * Provide a primary point of contact for individual landowners, homeowner associations, rural fire districts and local cooperators in support of Federal grant initiatives. * Coordinate with local prevention cooperatives for media contact and publicity needs for public outreach. * Provide educational programs at public meetings and public events to inform the public on assistance available through these programs. * Conduct on\'site inspections to provide technical advice on forest health, fuels reduction, determine eligibility for grant funding, and evaluate fuels treatment work done. * Provide guidance and direction for the work of contractors or consultants on fuels reduction projects. Wage and benefits: * \$4,338 - \$6,635 per month. * Medical, Dental, Vision, Retirement, Vacation, Sick, and Personal Days.
