*SCHEDULE: *Full time, variable; some evening, weekend and on-call hours

*GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: * Provide shift coverage, support, advocacy, referrals and case management to program participants in the shelter, assist with on-call duties.

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. These positions are considered to be a leadership role for the shelter Domestic Violence Specialist shift workers. These positions will work closely with the Program Manager in order to keep them informed of shelter issues that need to be addressed. Candidate must take initiative to complete tasks and identify needs to be addressed in and around the shelter in addition to reporting shelter resident needs.

  2. Provides shelter coverage, including coverage for vacant shifts until new staff hiring process is complete.

  3. Assists in the case planning and case management for program participants in the shelter.

  4. Provides intervention, support and referrals to crisis line callers.

  5. Completes new client intakes according to shelter policy and procedures.

  6. Provides a supportive, trauma informed environment to families at the shelter.

  7. Maintains confidential client files.

  8. Assures that shelter policies and procedures are followed at all times and implements Promising Practices, standards for Ohio's Domestic Violence Programs.

  9. Assists Program Manager with required monthly, quarterly and annual shelter reports.

  10. Completes and submits payables in a timely fashion.

  11. Is responsible for providing training for new specialist staff and providing feedback on areas of improvement throughout the orientation period.

  12. Notifies local police and other authorities of emergency situations.

  13. Report suspicion of child abuse to on-call manager immediately.

  14. Ensure open communication between self and others working in the shelter, both during shift exchange and documentation. 

  15. Identifies problems or unmet needs to the Program Manager and/or Director of Domestic Violence & Visitation Services.

  16. Completes specific chores during shift to assist in the general upkeep of the shelter facility and grounds.

  17. Completes monthly safety checks and reports any issues or problems to Program Manager. With Program Manager instruction/approval, a work order request will be made to address any repairs.

  18. Attends monthly staff meetings and takes meeting minutes to place in staff meeting binder. Participates in staff development activities.

  19. Works cooperatively with other staff members and volunteers to ensure conscientious, competent and trauma informed service delivery to shelter residents.

  20. Completes all necessary paperwork/required documentation as directed.

  21. Completes other tasks as assigned by Program Manager or other shelter Team Member.

  22. Complies with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Knowledge of the importance of empowerment and displaying caring, compassionate attitude.

  2. Ability to model open communication, fair and equitable treatment, management of conflicts and work in a team structure.

  3. Understanding of domestic violence in the family and in the larger society.

  4. Valid Ohio Driver's License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving insurability.
