Job Description:

Schnabel Engineering is seeking a Safety Coordinator to join our corporate team reporting to the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Manager. This is a full-time employment position with at least 40 hours per week. Additional hours depend on workload and the candidate’s availability. Travel to projects will be required, including occasional overnight travel.

We are seeking an experienced, motivated candidate with attention to detail, and a desire to be part of a strong company culture.

This an in-person position intended to sit in either our Richmond, Virginia, or Denver, Colorado area offices, and will support projects throughout the United States with an emphasis on job sites in western portions of the country. This requisition will be posted until May 31st.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist EHS Manager and Risk Management Team with carrying out company’s safety policies and procedures, and supporting the Safety, Risk and Compliance functions

  • Provide limited duration site safety oversight on exploration or construction sites to meet client requirements (may be longer, but typical duration is less than 1 week)

  • Assist Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) with management of nuclear gauges to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements

  • Develop and conduct safety training on applicable safety regulations

  • Develop site specific health and safety plans to satisfy client requirements

  • Develop activity hazard analyses to satisfy client requirements

  • Perform safety inspections and audits on projects

  • Assist EHS with safety documentation and reporting

  • Assist EHS with prequalification documentation regarding safety

  • Assist with questions regarding regulatory compliance with OSHA, MSHA, EPA, CDC/NIH, and state and local regulations

Required Skills/Experience:

  • US Citizen (due to government contract requirements)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health and Safety, or related field, or equivalent related experience in lieu of degree

  • 0-2 years of professional experience

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat software

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong writing skills

  • Good organizational skills and the ability to multi-task

  • Positive attitude

  • Strong work ethic and a desire to learn

  • Willingness and ability to perform field work and travel, including assignments that may last several days or weeks

  • Ability to lift 60 pounds and be physically able to negotiate construction sites and difficult work sites

Preferred Skills/Experience:

  • Direct professional experience in a construction setting

  • OSHA 30-hour Training

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • Ability to pass a pre-employment employment drug screening

For candidates in Colorado the salary range is between $50,000 to $90,000
