Sierra Nevada Corporation Firmware Engineer III in Lone Tree, Colorado

The SIGINT/EW DSP FW Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining high-performance FW that process digital signals for intelligence and military purposes. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of signal processing techniques and algorithms, networking, packets and be familiar with Vivado and tools used in FW development. The role requires a strong team player who can work closely with hardware engineers, system architects, and other developers to bring innovative solutions to the intelligence, military, and defense sectors.

Responsibilities:

  • This role will also support integration, test, and verification in the final products

  • Analyze, design, simulate, and implement algorithms in hardware descriptor languages, HDL (VHDL, Verilog), based on customer requirements and/or MATLAB model(s)

  • Implement and validate signal processing concepts such as FFTs, channelizers, digital filters, digital modulation, digital down/up-conversion, adaptive processing, etc

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplined design team (electrical engineers, systems engineers and scientists) to design and integrate challenging DSP FPGA designs and RF sensor systems

  • Collaborate with a multi-disciplined design team to design and integrate DSP applications for latest System on a Chip (SoC) implementations such as Xilinx Zynq Ultrascale+, Intel Stratix-10, and Xilinx RFSoC, Versal

  • Analyze, design, simulate, and implement designs which interface to common signaling standards, typical IP hard macros such as SERDES, PLLS, etc and/or protocols such PCIe, JESD204B, LVDS, etc

  • Implement firmware solutions that interface with hardware and SW systems (FPGAs, GPUs, GPPs)

  • Develop and maintain firmware in compliance with security, quality, and performance requirements

  • Contribute to the development of firmware architectures, design patterns, and engineering best practices

  • Participate in code reviews, testing, and debugging efforts as part of a collaborative team environment

  • Develop and maintain requirements documents, functional specification documents, interface control documents, etc

  • Develop project test plans and test procedures, provide test planning support, and assist in the execution of both lab testing and field testing

Must-haves:

  • Bachelor's of Science degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or other related discipline

  • Typically 6 or more years of relevant experience developing DSP firmware systems, preferably in a SIGINT/military context

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering principles and practices

  • Understanding of Computer Aided Engineering tools

  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design & development teams

  • Basic understanding of digital circuit concepts

  • Experience with FPGA HDL development, simulation and analysis, utilizing the VHDL language

  • Average to Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Visio)

  • Proficiency in VHDL, Verilog HDL coding

  • Understanding of signal processing (frequency domain, time domain, Filtering and Channelizing IQ data)

  • Familiarity with networking, packets, TCP/IP, UDP, Multicast and network architectures, 100GigE, 10GigE

  • Working knowledge of internal logic analyzer (ILA/chipscope/signaltap)

  • US Citizenship with ability to obtain a Secret Security Clearance

Preferred:

  • Exposure to simulations through functional and logical models and system analysis

  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry

  • Experience composing and analyzing Electrical Load Analysis (ELA), circuit modeling, simulation, and analysis

  • Familiarity with design requirements related to High Intensity Radiated Field (HIRF) and Indirect Effects of Lightning (IEL)

  • Knowledge of industry-standard electrical design principles, to include, but not limited to model-based definition, electrical component selection, manufacturing, and production processes

  • Familiar with Electro Magnetic Effects (EME) to include, Electro Magnetic Compatibility (EMC) and Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI)

  • Experience in digital or analog circuit design and schematic capture

  • Understanding of the printed circuit board layout process and tools

  • Experience with source code management systems

  • Experience with Linux Operating System and shell script developmen

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field

  • XX+ years of experience developing DSP firmware systems, preferably in a SIGINT/military context

  • Familiarity with C/C++, MATLAB, Simulink and other scripting languages - Familiarity with government open standards: SOSA, VITA, MORA, etc

  • Experience and willingness for lab testing

  • Familiarity with FPGA and ARM processors and memory access (e.g. DMA) - Strong analytical skills and problem-solving ability

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • US Citizenship with an Active Security Clearance is preferred

Estimated Starting Salary Range: $104,827.91 - $144,138.38. SNC considers several factors when extending job offers, including but not limited to candidates’ key skills, relevant work experience, and education/training/certifications.
