THE OPPORTUNITY

Silvus is seeking a full-time Mechanical Design Engineer reporting to the Principal Product Design Engineer on the Product Engineering team. The successful individual in this role will participate in the development of Silvus’ MANET radios and other advanced R&D projects with an emphasis on electro-mechanical hardware. This position is on a hybrid schedule, a minimum of 3 days onsite per week is expected. On-site days are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The location for this role is Silvus’ HQ in the heart of West Los Angeles, CA .

The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Electronic product packaging design and CAD drawing.

  • Mechanical parts design and CAD drawing.

  • Product thermal management design, analysis, and testing.

  • Provide technical guidance and support for the quality department.

  • Perform hands-on failure troubleshooting and analysis as needed.

  • Define the first article acceptance test plan and execute the test for new hardware design.

  • Perform design verification and validations according to the defined design inputs and product specifications.

  • Participate in defining the manufacturing processes and provide manufacturing support.

  • Perform failure analysis, root cause determination, and corrective action implementation.

  • Write reports, specifications, correspondence, and procedures.

  • Ensure products comply with and are certified to applicable specifications and regulatory standards such as MIL-STD-810H.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related fields.

  • Experience in electromechanical and packaging design for rugged, waterproof electronic products.

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar design tools.

  • Proficiency in interpreting and generating 2D and 3D CAD drawings.

  • Ability to do heat transfer modeling, analysis, and design.

  • Experience and ability to troubleshoot electro-mechanical assembly failures.

  • Detail-oriented with a firm commitment to quality.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or related fields.

  • Package design experience for electronics products used in outdoor harsh environments.

COMPENSATION

The pay range is NOT a guarantee. It is based on market research and peer data, and will vary depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.

CA Pay Range

$90,000—$120,000 USD
