MITRE’s National Security Accelerator Program (https://careers.mitre.org/us/en/national-security-accelerator-program) is seeking highly motivated, late-early and early-mid career candidates passionate about solving problems for a safer world. This program will provide unique work opportunities, onboarding, and mentoring to build your skills as a future leader. You will interact with a diverse group of program peers, MITRE national security leaders, and staff solving real-world problems. Over the course of this structured six-month program, you will hone your skills and develop strong professional networks in the national security sector and across our Innovation Centers, helping solve critical national challenges. Before transitioning to MITRE’s permanent national security staff, you will benefit from the following program pillars:

Roles & Responsibilities:

Working alongside MITRE mission specialists and engineers, you will be supporting national security sponsors while helping to design, develop, and implement solutions and technologies to address the communications engineering challenges of our government sponsors. You will learn about MITRE sponsor missions and apply your technical knowledge and skills to problem-solving and innovation. At the culmination of the program, you will become part of MITRE’s National Security team focused on sponsor missions with a strong technical background enabling you to be a future leader in the company.

From military satellite communications to resilient networking solutions, you will utilize your communication engineering expertise, innovative thinking, and technical prowess to tackle a diverse array of challenges essential to our sponsor's mission success. Your role will encompass:

  • Military Satellite Communications

  • Tactical Data Link Messaging

  • DoD Data Links and Combat Identification

  • Automated Testing of Communications Infrastructure

  • Command, Control, and Communications (C2) Systems

  • Protected Communications Networks

  • Radio Frequency (RF) Technologies

  • Software Defined Radios (SDRs)

  • SATCOM Protocols and Systems

  • VSAT Technologies

  • Legacy and Emerging Communication Concepts

  • National Infrastructure Policy Influence

  • Inter-agency Collaboration and Working Groups

Basic Qualifications:

  • Typically a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering, communications engineering, computer engineering, or related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience, or Master's degree with 3 years of experience, or PhD with relevant experience.

  • Demonstrated experience with RF technologies, including RF equipment, RF systems engineering, or RF communications.

  • Proficiency in one or more of the following areas: RF circuit design and troubleshooting, software defined radios (SDRs), digital signal processing (DSP), electromagnetic propagation, or types of RF and Microwave antennas.

  • Strong understanding of communication protocols, standards, and technologies relevant to military satellite communications, tactical data link messaging, DoD data links, and protected communications networks.

  • Proven ability and eagerness to quickly learn and apply new technologies and concepts in communication engineering.

  • Capacity to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams, fostering innovation and collaboration.

  • Experience engaging with senior government leaders and stakeholders.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences.

  • Active DOD Secret clearance with the ability to obtain a TS/SCI

  • This position requires a minimum of 50% hybrid on-site presence.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s and 8 years of experience in communication engineering principles, tools, and systems, with a focus on defense or national security applications or Master’s and 6 years of experience.

  • Proven track record of working on projects related to defense, homeland security, or aerospace for one or more government agencies.

  • Demonstrated interdisciplinary background, showcasing continual learning and adaptation to new technologies and concepts.

  • Active TS/SCI

  • Advanced expertise in communication engineering, including but not limited to:

  • Digital Signal Processing (DSP)

  • Wireless Communications

  • Sensor Fusion

  • Computational Imaging

  • Electromagnetics

  • In-depth knowledge of RF theory and concepts, with practical experience in RF system design, optimization, and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with modeling and simulation design using tools such as MATLAB, Simulink, or similar software.

  • Advanced coursework or extensive job experience in digital signal processing, with a focus on algorithm development, optimization, and implementation.

  • Proficiency with GNU Radio for software-defined radio (SDR) development and experimentation.

  • Strong programming skills in Python, C, C++, C#, or CUDA, with experience in developing communication algorithms, protocols, or software solutions.

  • Familiarity with machine learning techniques and their applications in communication engineering.
