Power Plant Services Valves/Turbine Mechanic in Oswego, Illinois

Mission:   This position conducts repairs and pressure testing on various valves, actuator types and turbines. In addition, this position is responsible for performing pre-testing, disassembly, cleaning, in-process inspection, machining, lapping, painting, assembly, testing, and final inspection on various types of valves, actuations, and turbines.

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Examine valves or mechanical control device parts for defects, dents, or loose attachments, and mark malfunctioning areas of defective units.   

  • Disassemble and repair mechanical control devices valves, turbines and associated turbine generator equipment.   

  • Ensure proper installation of valves or regulators and related equipment.   

  • Perform troubleshooting and problem solving of all issues.   

  • Calculate dimensions or tolerances, using instruments, such as micrometers or gauges.   

  • Evaluate procedures and recommend changes or modifications for improved efficiency or adaptability.   

  • Detects and reports defective materials or questionable conditions to management.   

  • Maintain work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follow directed safety procedures.   

  • Perform mechanical work as required, such as assembly and disassembly.   

  • Perform trouble shooting along with honing, drilling, stoning, and cleaning.   

  • Manage and organize own work while remaining a team player and handling other assigned tasks as required by the company.   

  • Perform extra assignments in other areas and related task assignments in the work area.   

  • Other duties as assigned.   

     

    Position Requirements:  

  • Hands-on technical mechanical experience repairing and troubleshooting high energy mechanical systems within a highly regulated industry.  

  • Exceptional organization and attention to details   

  • Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing   

  • Great analytical and critical thinking skills    

  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively within a business system.   

  • Proficiently with power and manual hand tools    

  • Ability to push, pull and lift up to 50 pounds.   

  • Experienced with measuring tools.   

  • Experienced with close tolerances, blueprint readings, and metric measurements.   

  • Mechanically inclined with the ability to follow specific written instructions and procedures.   

  • Working knowledge of basic mathematical skills.   

  • Willingness to learn with the ability to work independently as well as in a team setting.   

  • Continually exhibit the qualities of trustworthiness, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude.   

  • Regular, consistent attendance is a requirement. Overtime as required by the company.   

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and sit or stand for extended periods of time.  

     

    Education and Experience:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent   

  • Relevant technical certification preferred. 

  • A combination of education and experience will also be considered.
