Project Overview:

Bechtel has performed engineering or construction services on over 150 nuclear plants adding more than 74,000 megawatts of new nuclear generation capacity to the world. Bechtel and Westinghouse Electric Company have partnered to deliver the first AP1000 nuclear power reactors in Poland for our customer, the Polish Entity Polskie Elektrownie Jadrowe (PEJ). Bechtel will be the Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) contractor for the project. As the EPC, our responsibilities will include providing the design for the Turbine Island and Balance of Plant as well as the construction of the entire facility.

Job Summary:

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will support the development of Mechanical systems and equipment for the AP1000 project by preparing studies, piping and instrumentation diagrams, calculations, engineering specifications, data sheets, material requisitions, performing technical bid evaluations, and more in accordance with applicable procedures, codes, standards, and contract requirements. This position will require working with other functions and disciplines in a team environment. #LI-TN1

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates within the mechanical group and other disciplines/functions in developing system designs including but not limited to Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), calculations, data sheets, material requisitions, and engineering specifications.

  • Resolve technical issues related to the discipline independently including any required interface with other disciplines, functions, vendors, and/or client.

  • Execute schedule requirements while maintaining a high degree of quality in work products.

Basic Qualifications

  • Level 1 - Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related) with a minimum of 1-2 years of experience or in lieu of degree a minimum of 5-6 years of relevant work experience

  • Level 2 - Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical or related) with a minimum of 2-5 years of relevant experience or in lieu of degree a minimum of 6-9 years of relevant work experience

  • Must be authorized to live and work in the U.S. without sponsorship.

  • Must be able to complete a pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent oral and written communication, planning, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to utilize office automation tools effectively.

  • Some knowledge of industry and regulatory guides, codes, and standards

  • Some knowledge of the application of Mechanical engineering design principles.

  • Preferred - Experience in power (nuclear) plant design.

  • Preferred - Experience in working with procedures meeting quality assurance programs such as ASME-NQA-1, MIL-Q-9858A, or ISO-9000.

  • Preferred - Previous Bechtel and/or DOD or DOE project experience.

  • Preferred - Engineer-in-Training Certification (or ability to obtain within 12 months).
