As a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer, you will develop system models, designs, and validate these multiple domain Nuclear Command and Control (NC3) mission systems solutions used on the aircraft and ground stations being developed for our military customers. Primary responsibility will be to focus on customer needs and requirements in order to design, develop, document and test both hardware and software systems, ranging from black box to the complex end-to-end platform systems.

Projects span the entire development lifecycle, including pursuit and order capture, system design, requirements definition, requirement allocation, requirement traceability, use case development for software/hardware, systems integration, verification testing and qualification.

The candidate will work closely with fellow systems engineers, Technical Project Engineers (PEs), Product Line / Program Management, software, hardware, electrical and support staff to assure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of the product lifecycle. This position will support defining the future of NC3 defense systems. This position is located in Richardson, TX.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Lead technical proposal preparation and serve as a subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal, and customer reviews

• Ensure the development and management of technical risks and develops and executes mitigation plans

• Recommend investments or changes in technology, resources, procedures, equipment, systems, or other assets to improve the quality of the organization's projects.

• Apply SysML concepts for System Modeling across a full engineering lifecycle.

• Serve as design authority for our Integrated Strategic Solutions Engineering (ISSE) NC3 systems.

• Strong understanding of Comms system design and architecture

• Experience with Comms equipment integration with the platform

• Lead development and communication of roadmaps for ISSE projects, associated technologies, and product lines

• Advise engineering managers, program managers, business development managers, product line managers, and component architects

• Establish trusted and influential relationships with customers and suppliers

• Serve as the primary technology and systems engineering focal point for leadership and the customer for ISSE mission equipment packages/solutions

• Coordinate across strategic business units for alignment of portfolio roadmaps

• Monitor cost and schedule and reporting project status to program management and engineering leadership

• Demonstrated ability to effectively work with and communicate with all levels of management and individual contributors on the program team

• Operational experience with embedded (low-level) software development, application software development, and/or hardware development

• Experience and exposure to other related disciplines such as human factors, system safety, reliability & maintainability, and cybersecurity.

• Expert in systems engineering and open systems architectures

• Technical risk management, interface definition, and control

• Strong understanding of end-to-end systems architecture governance and design principles.

Qualifications/ Experience Needed:

• Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date

• U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance

• This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 12 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 7 years of relevant experience. In the absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience is required.

• Demonstrated experience with RF equipment and applications including link budget analysis, co-site analysis, government and commercial data waveforms, and user/mission system integration

• Prior experience with VLF, LF, HF, V/UHF, and Milsatcom

• Embedded development including interface definition, requirements, and use case development

• Experience with NC3 system architecture development, and systems, software, and hardware engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with aircraft level system integration

• Development of integration and test plans, test cases, and procedures

• Development and execution of product and system level tests to include experience with automation test tools or scripting

• Experience with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) concepts and tools such as Magic Draw CAMEO, Rhapsody, or Enterprise Architect

• Experience in technical proposal writing - Make/Buy Decision-making and trade study experience

• Experience with bidding utilizing SEER tools

• Experience with regulatory and certification requirements: TSO, DO-160, DO-254, DO-178B/C, and ARP 4754

• Experience working in an Agile development environment, being part of a highly integrated team working closely with SW, Integration and Verification teams

• Experience with virtualization technologies

• Knowledge of MIL-STD-1553B, ARINC 661 standard and bus protocols

• Experience with TCP/IP network applications development

The salary range for this role is 118,000 USD - 246,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
