Vacuum Furnace Development Engineer The Vacuum Furnace Development Engineer will identify, develop, and lead projects focused on improving furnace reliability and productivity. This individual will be responsible for technical development and manufacturing handoff of new and improved equipment/component designs and related operating procedures. This individual will demonstrate strict adherence to site EHS requirements, completion of assigned tasks, and providing periodic updates on key metrics and project status to all relevant team members, managers and key decision makers Responsibilities: Partner with R&D, Operations, Maintenance and equipment vendor to identify furnace design improvements and rank by validation ease and impact level Develop and execute validation plans for design improvement concepts, leading their execution and reporting on learnings Apply mechanical design principles, metallurgical science, and knowledge of vacuum furnace operation to implement validated design improvements Translate furnace design improvements and operating best practices to and from other manufacturing facilities Apply project management skills in planning, budgeting, time management, resource allocation, and risk management Apply Six Sigma methodology, statistical and characterization tools to develop trials, assess results, and implement control procedures Basic Qualifications: Master's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or Applied Physics 7 to 11 years' experience designing and troubleshooting vacuum furnaces or reactors Project leadership experience - effective planning and prioritization of projects to ensure on time delivery of new product/process technologies Knowledge of CVD, PVD, or general vacuum coating processes Proficient in use of CAD tools, such as Solidworks or similar Expertise in material selection, tolerance analysis, analysis of stress and temperature induced effects and conventional machining techniques. Ability to work hands-on in an industrial environment with necessary PPE and interact and influence in a matrixed environment. Proven interaction skills in a multi-functional team environment A strong sense of accountability, urgency, and self-direction Strong analytical and problem-solving skills Knowledge of safety and environmental requirements related to general manufacturing processes, including use of personal protective equipment Confident communications, both written and verbal Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Project) Preferred Qualifications: PhD in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, or Applied Physics Experience designing furnaces for chemical vapor deposition (or similar vacuum coating technologies) and ultra-high temperature heat treatment Experience working with graphite, refractories, and insulation materials Understanding
